What are we looking forward to in the GenerationS book?

As a member of HOGC who has only joined in the past 1-2 years, I am really looking forward to reading GenerationS to find out inside details on how HOGC was founded. I want to find out how to inculcate, build and fortify a relationship with the Lord that lasts not only one generation, but many GenerationS.

Christmas 2019 was the first time I attended HOGC service and I was planted in church in 2020. I’m looking forward to reading the book, GenerationS! I accepted Christ when I was 14 years old and looking back, I see the importance of having a supportive church environment for youths to grow up in. I would say almost all the messages from you are very good, insightful and I need to spend some time to think through and internalize to understand the heart behind all the message from you. However, I would say there are 2 particular messages that I really like, first is John 3:16 message from HOGC website. The other is 'Building your own Altar'. For 'Building your own Altar', after I finish listening to the message (I remembered that I listened twice), I came to a realization that I actually need to have my own altar and not borrow from my parents, and it also made me realize why I slipped away from God when I started pursuing my degree (of course, one of the main reasons is stated quite clearly in the message, that is, I never really attempted to build my own altar. Yes, I did accept Jesus into my life and even went through baptism, but I would argue that these are just the process of being a 2nd-gen Christian).

So to be very honest, I genuinely am very grateful for Pastor How for building HOGC and nurturing leaders like Kian Leng and Christopher Toh; Evonne also but I don't really know her that well ｢(ﾟﾍﾟ). I really learnt a lot from both of them, although I do not know you personally but from my interaction with both the leaders, I could really feel the genuine passion they have for God, and the discipleships that you have nurtured/beat into them. These are, I would say, proof that HOGC is unique in itself, that somehow every member is able to fill in their own role and work towards a common goal, that is to glorify God. For me personally also, the value that HOGC emphasizes, 'for others', is something that resonates with me a lot. It is one thing to say it out loud but it's another level if it is being constantly acted upon. I genuinely respect you for able to impart this value to every HOGC member, and that you, yourself, are able to always prove to everyone on being an example of acting for others. It is something that resonates well with me and I would like to continue to grow in HOGC with this (of course, also other values like the 7 pillars from BMT, but that's for another day).

TLDR; Happy Birthday Pastor How, thank you for building HOGC. I believe I have found the Church that belongs to me.

Happy Birthday Pastor How. Grateful for ‘The Fear of God’ series which helped us to know the importance of fearing God with a deep reverence and honour to our God. Appreciate this quote that you shared during the service “While the love of God draws us near to Him, it is the fear of God that keeps us from sin". Whatever we do is accountable to the Lord and when we fear God, we don’t live the sinful live. Love your heart for the young generations and how you empower them in serving in different ministries. Thank you for providing so many resources in the Training Portal that help members in HOGC to grow spiritually. On Father’s Day, you also send your handwritten message to the youths that without fathers. I believed that they feel loved and encouraged when they receive your letter. Thank you for sharing with us that respect is more important than love in a relationship before you shared with us the reason for launching PastorLia.com. The authentic relationship between you and Pastor Lia really inspires all the couples to respect and be truthful with each other. From your sharing, it reminded me about the important of having a personal relationship with the Lord, and not to know God through leaders or depends on anyone else.

Blessed Birthday Ps How! Though I haven't been in church for very long but I'm really encouraged by your love for people and the things you do to show your love for people. It is something that I also want to see in my own personal life, being able to reach out to the people God has placed around me, especially the youth!

In your latest sermon, you preached about the journey of a dream and I was really impacted by the message. It once again reminded me of the dreams God placed in my heart but somehow got lost along the years of growing up.

Growing up as a Christian since I was 10, I felt that I probably got too familiar with God and the church and as a young Christian, I once had dreams of saving souls and going out to the nations to preach the gospel. But life got in the way, things happened at home and I grew up having a lot of different feelings about people and church specifically. The message you preached once again reminded me of the vision and dreams God placed in my heart since young and I'm actually quite excited to restart this journey and save some souls. Thank you Ps How for that powerful message and I'm looking forward to building my walk with God in HOGC.

Thank you for building the church together with SP LIA for these past 20+ years. Though I first stepped in for service only a few weeks shy when the first Covid-19 case struck in Singapore, I did not regret the decision! In fact, I was thankful that you gave such a powerful sermon about the power of weakness/meekness and I was so blown away by that as well! With that sermon series in that general context at point in time, giving that action in meekness is an outward attitude towards others, and this helps in our every day lives too.

Also, during these past 2 years that I last joined, I had heard so many wow stories and projects that you initiated which help us grow spiritually and as a person too! Thanks for all these resources which guided me, as a newly joined member, to know more about the Lord and his teachings!

Happy Birthday Pastor How!!

Thank you for co-founding HOGC together with SP Lia in 1999, the church where I had truly encountered God and returned to my relationship with the Lord. Though I have only recently joined in the past 1-2 years and have not met you in person, I am grateful for all the messages that you have preached to us, which had led me to several revelations. For example, the fear of God is not being afraid of God, but the fear of being away from God (The Lost Truths). And that the fear of God is more important than the love of God when serving people.

Your vision for the church this year, Feed your Spirit, Starve Your Flesh, has also influenced my life. As we are more isolated during these WFH times, it has really helped me to stave off self-absorbed, sinful behavior, and instead replace it with spiritual habits, such as a prayerful life, reading the Bible and surrounding myself with godly people. I also notice that I am fasting more nowadays (starving my flesh), though I think that’s not the point. Isn't God great that even the ravens in the world are taken care of?

One other message that I distinctly remember is your demonstration how mankind was not created through the Big Bang, using two stacks of coins on the ground. As a person of logic myself, that demonstration really blew my mind and proved to me how we are all not on this earth by chance, but by an intelligent design. I am a believer of how science and Christianity cannot be separate entities, and your messages really make sense to me. Thanks Pastor How for your amazing planning, revelations and hard work in our church.

As a member of HOGC who has only joined in the past 1-2 years, I am really looking forward to reading GenerationS to find out inside details on how HOGC was founded. Am also keen to read on the perspectives of both Pastor How and Pastor Lia, and I am aware that this book is well planned and a lot of effort has been put in not only in the heart behind the messages but also in the production, so am keen on reading a book that is excellent in many ways.

Am sure that the insights contained within the book are priceless and contain the revelation of God to SPs, and for that reason I also believe that this book is a celebration. Surely, this milestone of HOGC is amazing and it can only be the work of God! So, more than anything, I am keen to find out how God has worked through SPs, pastors, leaders and even the members of the church in the creation and evolution of HOGC for the past 22 years.

I may not have had the opportunity to interact with you face-to-face yet (I am holding out in full faith that the day will come very soon!), but I have heard so many wow stories about how you have sown into the lives of many! When HOGC was first established, you committed so much of your time, effort and finances to building the church that you ended up sleeping on the floor. Today, you continue to build people and change lives through TC Cares and HCS. Truly, your sacrificial spirit and generosity are boundless!

Having only become a regular in HOGC within the past year, I was absolutely stoked when I found out that SP Lia and yourself were working on the manuscript to a book! And it is not just any book! It is The Book which promises the thoughts in your hearts, and charts the journey of a dream to build a world-class youth church that is our HOGC today! It is so amazing that we can still experience HOGC’s first 22 years of history through your perspectives! I am sure that I can proudly declare after I have finished reading the book that I no longer “suffer” from FOMO!

I also love the idea behind, that the book will not only help us to look back at HOGC’s humble beginnings, but will also serve as reminder to our children and our children’s children to never take the House of God for granted! Your words will span generations, and that it only because both yourself and SP Lia have been living testimonies of GenerationS! Honestly, I get so mind-blown every time I think of that!

I have heard a lot about how every small detail of the book, from the alignment of words to the truncation, is so well thought through. I am a lover of words myself, and I really appreciate when the words in the books that I read don't end up with "distorted" hyphens after every other line! Maybe it's me - I'm a little OCD, but I am very amazed how you and SP Lia even thought of that too! Truly, it's the small details that make a great difference, and I know that GenerationS is going to be great!

Hi SP,

I want to thank you for your insights and wisdom to have conceptualized Online church & Audio service.

For through the Online church, I was saved and planted in HOGC. And even though we hadn't interacted in person, the Audio service felt so personal, the impact was amplified! Your message on Divine Disruptions and Divine Interruptions was timely in a period of uncertainty and personal struggles.

Whilst it had been a very challenging season, it brought me great comfort, assurance and strength to keep on moving forward.

When I finally stepped into my first 1000pax service to hear the messages both you and SP Lia shared, I was grateful to be home in the House of God.

All in all, thank you for founding HOGC with SP Lia to lead GenerationS, that youths of today, tomorrow and even myself will always have a place to call home.

Hi SP, Happy Blessed Birthday!

Thank you for working so hard together with SP Lia to build HOGC and making so many resources available online that we can tap on during this Covid period. I have never imagined to be serving in a ministry and having grown so much, beyond just a Sunday Christian.

Even though I have not met you in person yet, I have heard so many impactful stories from my CG members and leaders about you and SP Lia building the church since Henderson days. It really goes deep down in my heart and I am so inspired by how you and SP Lia really have the heart for all the church members, from providing financial support through HCS to those in need, writing letters to those who lost their parents on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, and even praying, providing financial needs to those in other part of the world like in Afghanistan and Myanmar. It really touched me so much as it reminds me that we have a spiritual Father in heaven that is so selfless and loves us so much.

Today, I just want to celebrate and honour you. Thank you once again, SP, for building a church that we can call home.

There are just so many things to thank you for - for being our pastor, leader, and spiritual father. In this whole season, both you and Pastor Lia have shown us tremendous leadership and love. You are always finding ways to connect with us during this season, always directing us back to our source, God Himself!

Just recently, I was very impacted when you shared your heart behind PastorLia.com. Both you and Pastor Lia showed me what it means to not only love your partner but also to respect your partner. Thank you for building HOGC! You never stop ploughing even if it means working late into the nights. Your heart is so big and always thought of OTHERS. You even find new ways of connecting to everyone even as the church grows bigger! Both Pastor Lia and you are truly a living example of GenerationS and I’m so thankful to have both of you as our Pastor and our Spiritual Parents!

Thank you for launching so many initiatives over the past 1.5years - Faith Essentials, Audio Listening, The Vault, BTS Channel, HOGC 4.0 Ministry and the list goes on! As a Church, Zone and CG we definitely grew in this pandemic! Indeed, there is progress in the pause! Personally, over the past 1.5years, I have definitely grown much closer in my walk with God and Church. I definitely do not want to stop growing, and I want to continue to have fresh revelations. The additional resources launched definitely help to shift mindsets and shape my thoughts. There are so many things to think about and re-learn! I’m truly grateful that we can have access to such key messages! 😭

Oh wow not forgetting this year is such a significant year because GenerationS is going to be launched! Even though I came during IM days, this book it’s going to give me the sneak peeks into the early days of HOGC from the both of you personally!!! It is going to be so mind blowing and I can’t wait to read it! I also can’t wait to share it with my kids one day and the next next generation!! 🔥🔥🔥

Happy Birthday SP! Thank you for leading HOGC during this whole pandemic for the past 18 months, how we should progress in the pause and sow in this crisis. You have been busy working on the book GenerationS and I cant wait to read all the stories in the book and share them with my kids one day!

Most recently, my leader Chris challenged our CG to draw closer to pastors. I am newer and didn't know how I can connect deeper, and DM-ing our pastors never came to my mind before. But I took a bold step to DM you my revelation when you preached about inviting God in. To my surprise, you replied to my DM and your reply really encouraged me! Happy birthday to you, SP How. It is truly a blessing for me to be planted in HOGC. The messages that you preached, especially "The Power of Weakness" and "The Power of Meekness", where you preached "do not mistake my Weakness as Meekness" and "Meekness is strength under control" - these are so true. This message impacted me even till today, that I always replay it in the Spotify podcast. You always humble yourself when you preach and share with us your personal experiences in life, tell us that it's ok to be imperfect, weakness is where we make friends.

My perspectives about weakness and meekness have changed after listen to the messages. When I look back, I realised that my weaknesses and meekness have actually lead me to a better path, which now become my strength. I used to get upset when I felt of being taken advantage of or made fun by others where I started to distance with my friends. But now I take it as an opportunity for me to connect with people and strengthen my character.

Just really want to Thank you for sharing Vision 2021 this year on “Feed you Spirit, Starve your Flesh!” Pastor, through this message I was convicted to put all things of the world aside and to focus on building my own walk with God. It is so true that how during the whole pandemic, it was a test of our own spiritual faith. Often times, I use to do things out of my own strength but I realized that it was not sustainable. It was physically, mentally and emotionally draining.

Listening to the sermon, I was challenged and began to take the time over the last few months worshipping during my own quiet time, reading the bible and just praying in the spirit. All the resources that were given to us, from Faith Essentials to the Podcast and Audio sermons, Pastor, I am just truly grateful that I could build my spirit man from the inside using all of it. Often times, I used to rely on weekend sermons and my leaders but now as I grow on the word of God, I begin to understand what the Spirit means. Many things have changed in my life and I see God’s hand in it.

Pastor, I just want to thank you for building HOGC with Pastor Lia and being so real both on and off stage. You have shown me what is like to be a spiritual leader and what it means to come in obedience to the calling of God. I will always want to be found serving and building GenerationS after Generations with you, Pastor Lia and our Pastors and leaders!! Won’t Stop Now! Once again, Happy Birthday Pastor How! We started off 2021 with you sharing the vision to feed our spirits and to starve our flesh even more so this season - the messages really convicted me to grow in the fear of God. Happy Birthday Pastor How! I am grateful to be planted in HOGC and honoured to have you as my pastor together with SP Lia. There have been many sermons that you have preached over the years and 2 particularly spoke to me. The first being the recent audio sermon which you shared about divine disruptions and interruptions. This was a very timely message especially with Covid-19 that disrupted many of our lives. Nonetheless, there are positives from it and I am glad that my friend whom I tried to reach out over the years has become more regular during this season when Covid-19 struck. Before that, he will only come to church probably less than 10 times a year (i.e. during Big days). However, during this period, with the online church, he came back more often and is now even going through follow up. I am encouraged that he is more regular now and this disruption did bring about something positive!

Another message that spoke to me was the 5Fs (Faith, Family/friends, Finances, Future, Fitness) which you preached before. It is a guiding principle which I apply to my life to set targets and to progress every year.

Thanks SP How for being a visionary and planning ahead. I am just grateful that we can have 1,000 pax service right now because you decided to have a fluid seating plan when you planned for the Imaginarium. Can’t wait for the future ahead for HOGC!!!

The sermon on “feeding the spirit and starving the flesh” has become one of the check lists that I will go to every day as it reminds me to be careful on the things I feed myself every day. Hi Pastor How!

2021 marks my 15th year in HOGC. It is not considered too long in the race, but this is just the beginning. I remember once both SPL and yourself shared that even though you are in this journey with Jesus for over 20 years, but both of you have yet to even cross the halfway mark because there is an eternity awaiting for you. There is still so much freshness in your relationship with Him and that’s what I am inspired to have too.

During this 18 months of online church, I am really thankful that I am still given the opportunity to serve, to build and to grow. Even though I may considered to be a “veteran” by the number of years or by my age, but I received the same opportunity as a newer / younger member in HOGC. (I am like the oldest newer member in the team. HAHA!)

I was first given an opportunity to learn Premier Pro from the Video Production ministry to create online services for HeartKidz Junior, bringing God’s words and presence to their homes. Then I was given the opportunity to serve in Design ministry through HOGC 4.0. I got the privilege to design the sermon thumbnail of SPs, and PCGL. And just 3 months to the ministry, I was given the opportunity to design the On-Air Skin for Easter 2021. And through Design ministry, I was given another opportunity to be exposed to On-Air Visual ministry.

Honestly, I wouldn’t have thought that I could still give and build the church together with you in such a great extent especially when 2020/ 2021 was going to be a year that I am supposed to be travelling a lot for convention events at work. It is really a divine disruption.

I joined with a heart of giving, to fill the gap, but I received so much more. My biggest takeaway is that I am feeling closer to home, to my spiritual parents, and being exposed to many more insider stories from these ministries on your heart and thoughts for the youths, and reasons behind starting the Youth Innovation Team.

Pastor, thank you for continuously sowing into our lives even when it is the toughest. Thank you for reigniting my dreams on JOAD weekend. Thank you for showing us to trust God and love others in crisis. Thank you for everything and every sacrifice you made just to love the GenerationS.

You have such foresight about the church, how we may all respond to the pandemic. I remember you preached in February 2020, about the believers who were scattered, but they were prepared and joyful about it. It is about the responses of us. It's a choice. It is because of HOGC 4.0 ministry that I grow even more in my walk with God, grow to want to connect my CG mates more.

You even planned all the resources to be made available and accessible. I even showed some of my friends PastorHow.com and watched 'The Faith Attitude' sermon on YouTube after so many years with my very first friend.

So thankful for the decisions made over the years and now over this period! They were all because of the practical teachings, the consistency we observed, and the principles learnt from you and SP Lia. It's always about people! I always wanted to understand more of your thoughts, especially taking a bold step to start out Heart of God Church as young adults. SP, I have heard of how you sacrificed and went through obstacles in the midst of it. I am so grateful for both of you. Happy Birthday SP! Even after all these years as the church has grown, you never fail to take a few seconds to just stop and say hi. For me and my household, we will be found in HOGC, building the church for the next GenerationS and for the Glory of the Lord.

HBD SP How!!

More than 2 years ago, you said we should test out "On-Air" as a platform. It was such foresight because through this platform, it built the church all through the pandemic!!

We not only survived but we thrived. And we finally came back into Imaginarium the last two weekends. Thank you for showing such wise and strong leadership and always having such a big heart, thinking about ways to better lead the church and us as staff.

I still remember all the sessions where I got to film and edit the sermons whenever you or SPL preached and I feel like I got the double, triple impact because I kept listening to it over and over again.

Last weekend was such a highlight to just sit in the service and be ministered by the word live, in-person once again. And oh how I've missed Revival Nights. We just ended Revival Nights for the youths and I can't wait for the YA sessions when we'll be receiving from you. Will always be a privilege to be led and discipled by you. Grateful.

Happy birthday Pastor How!

Over a recent staff review meeting, I got to know that you meticulously looked through the names of all the staff so that you can give us a salary increment and bonus based on our stage of life. Having a boss who oversees the human resource (HR) of the organisation is simply unheard of as this role is usually performed by a HR director and manager.

Furthermore, in this Covid-19 season, many businesses and organisations were cutting cost and letting go of employees. However, for our church, none of the staff were released but redeployed into different roles and departments. While many bosses focused on maintaining the PROFIT margin in a pandemic like this, SP, you focus on sustaining and blessing the PEOPLE.⁣

Also, when the IT team met Pastor Lia and you recently to pass you a gift, both of you were supposed to enjoy dinner and watch a tennis game. Instead of doing so, both of you set aside time to find out how we are doing and even encourage and affirm us individually.⁣

The IT team can make such a big difference and impact in the church because SP, you were the first to cast the vision of HOGC 4.0, believe in us and gave us the opportunity to come full-time to join the dream team alongside Pastor Lia and you.⁣

You first build the church and our dreams, and now we are chasing after our dreams and building the dream of Pastor Lia and you. Thank you SP! We love and honour both of you very much!⁣

Just being able to hold the book in my hands, flip through the pages and revel in the stories; display them on my shelf and the day May and I get to hand them to our children and children's children. This book is no ordinary book as it took 20 years in the making. 20 years of blood, sweat and tears for both of you, Pastors.

Happy Birthday Ps How!

Thank you for building HOGC tirelessly the last 22 years. Growing up in church was my greatest privilege to watch and see how you and Ps Lia led the church through the different season, building alongside. Thank you for paving the way of how we can be an alternative of what being in a strong youth church can be!

Thank you for believing in us youths when we didn’t have anything ,but both you and SP Lia never had put aside our dreams, instead, you believed in us and trained us such that today we are able to stand alongside building HOGC on the frontlines with the both of you!

Even as both you and Ps Lia celebrated your 51st birthdays, thank you for showing us what living a life lived for giving God your best years is like and it is an image of what being simple is like.

Being on the team, I’m constantly inspired to grow to the next level and seeing how you both led the church.

Pastors, I am most looking forward to all the stories and thoughts from your hearts. As a veteran in church, this book is not just about the church’s story, but it is OUR story, charting out our lives of giving our best years of our life for God, sacrificing our time and finances to the cause of Christ. I know that it will be a blessing to not just the many newer members and youths, it will also reinforce our hearts and minds on what makes us part of the DNA of HOGC, and continue to impart these cultures to the newer members in our church.
